Small Hands, Big Dreams: Inspiring Climate Action Through Art on Pari Island

In the north, the pressing reality of climate change that continues to erode global ecosystems, the children of Pari Island stand as both witnesses and beacons of hope in the “Painting with Pari Island’s Children” initiative. Organized by Enter Nusantara, this activity aims to introduce the concepts of the climate crisis and renewable energy transition to the younger generation in a creative and engaging way.

With brushes and paints in their small hands, these children depict the world the see and the future they envision. Through their artwork, they express concerns about the visible impacts of climate change around them, such as rising sea levels, dwindling coral reefs, and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns. Simultaneously, they illustrate a brighter future–one where clean energy replaces destructive fossil fuels.

In Pari Island, where the local community often bears the brunt of climate change, this activity proves that environmental education knows no age limits. Using painting as a medium, children can grasp complex issues, like energy transition, in a simple and more accessible form.

“Through this activity, we aim to instill an early awareness that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility,” said Tasya, a member of Enter’s Team. “We believe that even though they are young, their voices and actions have the power to inspire future change.”

This initiative was not without its challenges. Concepts like climate change and energy transition can seem abstract and difficult for children to understand. However, by using visual tools and discussions tailored to their everyday language, the children began to see that small actions, like reducing plastic waste and supporting renewable energy use, can significantly impact the environment.

“This artistic approach opened their eyes. They realized they are part of the solution, not just victims of climate change,” Tasya added.

Beyond producing meaningful artwork, this activity left a lasting impression on the children of Pari Island. Their paintings reflect not only concern but also hope—a vision of preserved natural landscapes, clean energy technologies in their homes, and oceans teeming with life once again.

The documentation of this initiative will serve as a vital tool to inspire similar efforts in other coastal communities. By showcasing these paintings to a wider audience, the hope is to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of energy transition, garnering broader support from various segments of society.

Painting with Pari Island’s Children” delivers a powerful message: despite their age, children can be a powerful voices for change. Pari Island, with its threatened beauty, symbolizes our collective fight for a better environment.

Let us learn from them—from the small hands painting big dreams—that a green future is a shared responsibility. Climate change is an urgent issue, and Pari Island reminds us that action must begin now, without delay.
