Malang, July 2025 – Enter Nusantara successfully held Youth ClimActivist 2025 at Kontainer Cafe UMM, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The two-day event brought together more than 25 representatives of student organizations and communities in Malang to deepen their understanding of climate issues and hone their digital campaigning skills.
Climate change is a critical issue today, not only because its impacts are increasingly felt by everyone, but also because it is an important topic to address with young people. Surveys indicate that Indonesian youth have limited understanding of this issue, including green skills and green job opportunities. Yet, the youth population of over 64 million plays a crucial role in driving a just energy transition.
Through Youth ClimActivist, we aim to address this issue by providing a learning space and hands-on campaigning experience on climate change.

On the first day of this workshop, we focused on the basics of climate change and energy transition, including discussing local issues in East Java with Muhammad Asyrofi Al Kindy – Researcher. Participants also learned how to pick winnable issues, develop campaign strategies, and understand the interconnection between climate and social, economic, and political aspects.
On the second day, participants were provided with material on digital and media engagement strategies delivered by Wahyu Eka Setiawan from WALHI Jawa Timur. Participants were invited to explore communication strategies, copywriting techniques, and graphic design practices for climate campaigns.
As a form of practical application, each community was asked to prepare climate campaign content, which was then published on their respective social media accounts. With this method, climate literacy goes beyond the classroom and extends into the digital space where young people interact a lot.

Youth ClimActivist 2025 has successfully become a forum for learning and a driver for real action. The hope is that participants can continue to spread the knowledge and skills they have acquired so that the local climate movement in Malang becomes stronger and has a wider impact.
Furthermore, this activity also proves that young people can become agents of change when given the space, access, and opportunity. With creativity and a spirit of collaboration, they can present a fresh new narrative about the future of energy and the environment in Indonesia. We believe that small initiatives like this, starting from local communities, will create a significant ripple effect, inspiring more young people to speak out for the climate.
