Jakarta is known as a dynamic, densely populated city that poses challenges in terms of mobility. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (2024), land transportation in Jakarta contributes to around 47% of energy sector emissions in Indonesia, while the TomTom Traffic Index (2024) report ranks Jakarta as the 69th most congested city in the world. These facts show how important it is to build public awareness about more sustainable mobility.
As part of addressing this issue, Enter Nusantara held a Low-Emission Journey: Exploring Glodok event on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Ten participants took part in the event, with over 50 people registering. Participants were invited to explore the historic Glodok area in an environmentally friendly way: using public transportation, walking, and adopting a low-waste lifestyle.
The event began with a meeting point at Jakarta Kota Station, where participants shared their experiences using public transportation to get to the location. From there, the activity continued with an exploration of the history, culture, and cuisine of Glodok, guided by the Plainsong Walking Club.

Beyond enjoying the uniqueness of Glodok, participants were also invited to understand how low-emission mobility can be one of the solutions to the climate crisis. Through a discussion session with the Jakarta Transportation Discussion Forum (FDTJ), participants gained new insights and experiences about the challenges and opportunities of adopting public transportation in Jakarta, the important role of young people in driving change, and how urban planning influences the culture that is formed within a society.
Participants were also encouraged to be more aware of plastic waste. In line with the spirit of environmental friendliness, each participant was asked to bring their own food and drink containers. This simple act symbolized a commitment to reducing single-use waste in daily activities. Thus, this exploration was not only a recreational activity but also a practical example of a sustainable lifestyle.

In addition to walking and discussing the climate crisis, we also invited and opened up space for creative participation. The three best documentaries received appreciation in the form of Enter Nusantara T-shirts and the “From Road to Roots” zine.
Through Low-Emission Travel: Exploring Glodok, we aim to demonstrate that eco-friendly transportation is not only about electric vehicles but also about simple choices: walking, cycling, or using public transportation.
With the enthusiasm of young people who want to be involved in this agenda and those who attended in person, this event proves that the younger generation is ready to take on a role in realizing sustainable, environmentally friendly, and inclusive mobility.
