Haurngombong, Sumedang June 29, 2025 – In the midst of the climate crisis issue, which is increasingly becoming a threat to all circles, and the difficulty of accessing clean energy in rural areas, a group of young people proves that real solutions can start from simple things to save the environment, namely by utilizing coffee grounds.
Through the Ground to Gas (G2G) project, Enter Nusantara, together with a community of young people in Sumedang, initiated an initiative to process organic waste, especially coffee grounds and livestock manure, into biogas as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source. This idea is proof that the energy transition cannot only be started from the center of power; sometimes it is born from a grassroots initiative that is concerned and aware enough to answer the problem of the climate crisis with a spirit of collaboration and courage to provide real solutions.
A group of young people representing their respective regions initiated the Ground to Gas project with a spirit of change. This initiative stems from the National Student Conference successfully organized by Enter Nusantara in 2024. This event is a collaborative space that brings together young people from all over Indonesia to formulate real solutions to the threat of climate crisis and social inequality.

From that forum, the idea of “Ground to Gas” was born, a communication campaign project that aims to expose false transition practices in the energy sector, especially natural gas projects that are claimed to be clean energy but have major environmental and social impacts. With a collective spirit, this project is proof that young people are not only critical but also capable of designing strong communication strategies to encourage systemic change.
The culmination of the G2G activities took place on Sunday, June 29, in Haurngombong Village, Sumedang Regency. The activities included technical training on biogas management, a hands-on visit to the installation, and a handover ceremony of the biogas biodome unit to the community representatives.
This G2G introduced a new approach, which differs from conventional biogas technology that relies solely on livestock manure. This G2G utilized coffee grounds waste collected from various shops in Sumedang. This combination is certainly proven to improve the quality of biogas as well as reduce organic waste that has been thrown away.
In this process, the community was given training facilities by the G2G technical team by introducing the fermentation process, the safe use of biogas, and the utilization of by-products in the form of bio-slurry as organic fertilizer. This project is also a commitment as a step towards energy independence in Haurngombong Village, where the community is not only a beneficiary but also an active manager of this alternative energy system.

One of the beneficiaries. Abad (40) said. “Thank God, since there is this biogas, we are more efficient because we don’t need to buy LPG anymore. Livestock waste can also be utilized better.”
The event was also attended by representatives from Enter Nusantara and G2G Community, and other collaborators such as SRE ITB were asked.
With a participatory approach and knowledge transformation to the community, Ground to Gas is a clear example that young people can be direct actors in bringing sustainable clean energy. This project not only touches on the environmental and energy aspects but also brings behavioral changes and new awareness in the village community about the importance of waste management and energy independence.
In the midst of the threat of climate crisis and energy inequality, young people dare to answer the challenge to provide concrete solutions. G2G is proof that young people can be the solution to building clean energy for the future. Young people can be the locomotive with the process of mutual cooperation and local knowledge as well as the courage to choose to go directly to address the current climate crisis.
It is time to stop seeing young people as the “weak generation”. They are the force of today who are ready to answer the climate crisis with ideas, actions and real courage. In facing the challenges of the current climate crisis, their voice is no longer a spark but their voice is the answer to change the current situation.
